On October 16th, 2018 more than 80 students, parents and residents attended the traveling workshop “Judge the Judges”. The panel made up of Justice Judith McConnell, Alvin Gomes of the San Diego Bar Association, Chief Deputy District Attorney Jerrilyn Malana, and Beryl Flom from San Diego League of Women Voters discussed how judges are appointed, why some are elected, and many more questions about the journey to becoming a judge. This event reached voters of all ages and included an interpreter and headsets for the Spanish speakers.
Attendees were provided with voter resources including IVP’s informational handout about evaluating judicial candidates. As a result of the interactive nature of the presentation, the audience was highly engaged and posed thoughtful questions to the panelists.
